AA Adopts: Amanda and Joshua

AA Adopts

Featuring Amanda and Joshua

Amanda and Joshua photographed at home.

At Art Again, we’re all about filling more lives with art. Our marketplace exists to give art, otherwise stuck hidden in private collections, renewed meaning by helping it find a home again.

In our new segment AA Adopts, we feature the art we’ve successfully re-homed, highlight the diversity of buyers from our platform and explore how seamlessly they’ve integrated these artworks into their lives and spaces.

For our second instalment of AA Adopts, we feature Amanda and Joshua, a couple who acquired their first ever artwork with us, Gusmen Heriadi's Relax #3, for their newly renovated apartment. In this interview, they share about their special encounter with the seller of the artwork; how the artwork perfectly captures what their home means to them, a place for rest; and how since hanging it on the wall, Relax #3 has became the source of many lively conversations with their guests.

Can you tell us a bit about yourself and your passion for art?

Hi, I’m Amanda. My partner (Joshua) and I work in public relations.

It has always been our dream to have the walls of our home filled with art that brings us joy, that reminds us of special moments in time, and reflects upon who we are as homeowners.

What drew you to the work by Gusmen Heriadi, and why did you decide to purchase it?

We love our couch. It’s the one place I get to spend time with Joshua completely in our own world, undisturbed by external commitments and demands.

We appreciate the simplicity of the artwork and its meaning “Relax”. Home is where we should be able to let our hair down, sprawl ourselves on the couch and be our realest selves.

"Our friends like to joke that the figure in the painting is reaching for a remote which fell on the floor. We strongly contemplated installing the air-conditioner remote right where the outstretched arm leads."

How does this artwork complement your home?

The colours are calming and fits the overall theme of our house, which comprises of neutral colours like white, beige, brown, etc.

Can you share any special story or connection you feel with this piece?

I personally cherish every encounter with the people I cross paths with in this lifetime. I feel that the special connection we have with this work, maybe surprisingly, is with the seller Flo.

When we went down to her place to view the artwork before making a decision on whether to purchase it, we were in awe of all the beautiful and intriguing artworks and sculptures she’d collected over the years. We had a lovely time chatting with her and learning about her stories and experiences as an art collector. We appreciate that the platform (Art Again) opens up private collections to first-time art buyers like ourselves in a way that is easy and personal.
