For the friend who’s most in their element at home, cozy and content.

This Christmas, give them a little extra warmth—an artwork to remind them that their space is their sanctuary, and no one does comfort better than they do.

Diana Wang, Origami Swans & Hanger, 2005

Oil on canvas
40 x 50 x 2 cm (each)
Condition: Very good

Diana Wang (Singaporean, b. 1982) is a painter with a fondness for the everyday objects, bringing them to life via her still life compositions. Aside from painting, Wang also teaches and runs painting workshops at Goodman Arts Center.

I loved how the origami swans appear to be moving and taking flight, and that interesting reddish-hue of rusty brown in the background.

And there seems to be something so curious about the lone hanger just “hanging around.” The painter almost invites the viewer to ask what article of clothing was just there. A men’s button-down shirt? A lacy blouse? A pair of trousers or a mini-skirt?
