Trained at the Indonesian Academy of Fine Arts (ASRI) from 1976 to 1979, he developed a distinctive visual language that draws on both traditional artistic sensibilities and modern abstraction.\u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003e\u003c\/span\u003e\u003cspan\u003eA finalist in the prestigious Philip Morris Indonesia Art Awards in 1997, Hanafi has exhibited extensively across Indonesia and internationally, with more than a hundred exhibitions to his name. His solo exhibitions include presentations at the National Gallery of Indonesia in Jakarta, while his long-standing collaboration with Komaneka Fine Art Gallery in Ubud has continued since 2001. Expanding beyond painting, Hanafi's multidisciplinary practice encompasses mixed media and collaborations with writers, dancers, and architects.
