He studied painting and drawing at the University of Oregon and later received his MFA from the University of Washington. Kamijo is widely recognised for his playful yet meditative paintings that balance abstraction and figuration, often using recurring motifs such as poodles, flowers, birds and human faces. \u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003e\u003cspan class=\"\" data-state=\"closed\"\u003e\u003c\/span\u003eInfluenced by artists such as Francis Bacon and Willem de Kooning, Kamijo works with quick-drying vinyl paint, allowing for spontaneous and expressive gestures rooted in his early training in Japanese calligraphy. His compositions are characterised by bold colours, simplified forms and rhythmic brushwork, creating images that feel both humorous and psychologically charged.
