This artwork was inspired by an image from a vintage textile reference book celebrating the movement of waves unearthed in northeastern France. The pronounced brushwork, striking contrast and sublime subject matter results in a dynamic piece, with the swell of the sea shown to be weightlessly folding and unfolding itself and tumbling through this wide-format rendering.
Silver leafing has also been added by hand to add to the effect of the movement of water. When the silver leafing catches the light, this lends a beautiful yet subtle luminous and glistening effect to the artwork, which takes on a different complexion at various times of the day.
We fell in love with this piece as we especially loved the movement in the piece. Plus we also found it visually captivating and very alluring to look at, with the beauty and elegance of the luminescence and textural accents provided by the gilding.
This artwork used to be displayed in the wall space above our staircase. Sadly, we have moved to an apartment with limited wall space and it is time for us to reluctantly bid adieu.
The canvas has been beautifully framed on fabric and housed in a museum quality acrylic box frame.
