Hine Kim, Medea II, 2003
Encaustic on canvas
122 x 122 cm (visible), 134.5 x 134.5 x 4.5 cm (framed)
Condition: Good, foxing and dust
-
This piece is by Australian artist Kim Hine who’s unique style is painting Asian women with encaustic - a wax like covering to the canvas which gives a unique effect and texture to the painting.
Medea II appealed to me due to its Korean style/ subject and use of blue colour palette - which complimented dark wood furniture and created a haunting/ atmospheric effect. It has been placed in the living room where it never fails to become a conversation piece. I found that it had a great depth despite being a simple subject.
The painting is being put up for sale due a work relocation overseas to a furnished serviced apartment - so rather than place in long term storage, I would rather the piece find a home whereby it would be displayed.
