Faris Heizer, Table for Two, 2020

SGD 3,800.00

Acrylic on canvas
76 x 61 cm
Condition: Very Good

-

Faris’ works are emotive, riveting and hard to look away from.   As one of Faris’ earlier works, this was purchased through the Phillips auction as part of the National Gallery Singapore Gallery Benefit.  It has been difficult to acquire his works which are rarely available, but I feel his works deserve a wider audience.

In Table for Two, Faris examines routines shaped by a conformist ecology, born of expectations of the self as well as societal norms. Two waiters are portrayed fumbling over a serving tray, one with their hand outstretched to slow the other’s fall. The painting illustrates a devastatingly comical moment that elicits anxiety, restlessness and tension.

Part of the “National Gallery Singapore - Gallery Benefit | Past. Future. Present.” online auction, in partnership with Phillips from 10-20 January 2022.
