Gines Serran-Pagan (Spanish, b. 1949) has devoted his life to his work and the defence of human rights. “I am not one of those artists who is isolated in his studio,” says the artist. “I am very sensitive [to current events].”
The Spanish painter, sculptor, and poet had spent time working on his art in the Visayan region of the Philippines over the past 20 years since he first set foot in the country. Working also as an activist and an anthropologist, Serran-Pagan finds his inspiration in his world travels as much as in his pursuit of an examined life. Thus, his works tell of universal stories in which vibrant colours, layered textures, and shapes draw you into a world without borders, where what is real merges into what is imagined in a seamless blur.
