I acquired this piece directly from Han (b. 1943, Singapore) some years back during a studio visit. It greets me as I leave and return to the home daily. Fitting of the doyen of Singapore sculpture, the work commands incredible presence without being imposing.
Alas, I am now letting it go as part of my plans to refresh and scale down my collection. I hope it goes to a good home.
Han Sai Por is a renowned Singaporean sculptor celebrated for her distinctive stone and wood sculptures that embody the harmony between nature and human creativity. Born in 1943 in Malaysia, Han Sai Por moved to Singapore in her youth and later pursued her artistic education at the prestigious Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts.
With a career spanning over four decades, Han Sai Por has established herself as a leading figure in the Singaporean art scene. Her sculptures often draw inspiration from organic forms found in nature, such as seeds, pods, and shells, reflecting her deep connection to the environment.
