This print is an exhibition poster which was made after a painting by Jasper Johns (b. 1930) created in 1961 for the artist’s exhibition at the Museum of Modern Art, New York. The work energetically depicts the overall shape and proportion of the states of the United States and parts of Mexico and Canada.
Johns is a highly influential American artist that has contributed significantly to contemporary art, often being associated with the Pop Art and Neo-Dada movements. He is best known for his iconic depictions of the American flag and everyday objects. His prints and paintings have set record prices at auction, and the meaning of his works and changing style continue to be subjects of controversy.
*Objects is a tiny Singapore-based vintage store run by Naj. Her curation of homeware and furniture is beautiful and also functional, catering for space-constrained homes locally.
