This painting is of the Shwedagon Pagoda in Yangon, Myanmar by Myoe Win Aung (b. 1972). It caught my eye in 2007 when I was living in Jakarta. Back then Myanmar was still under military rule, and not a typical tourist destination. But I was in love with the beautiful pagodas. My late husband, who was a diplomat, bought this for me as a birthday and wedding anniversary gift. Years later, in 2013, I finally managed to visit Yangon and see the pagoda for myself. I treasured this painting through the years - it moved with us from Indonesia to USA and back to Singapore. I kept it even after he passed away 8 years ago. But life goes on. I am now remarried and moving to another country, and I will not be able to bring this painting with me. Putting it in storage with my other belongings was an option I considered, but it would be such a shame to put a shroud on this beautiful glow of a painting. I’m selling it so that it can be on a wall, where it belongs, in all its glistening beauty, bringing joy to another person, just as it did to me for many years.
Purchased from the Rotary Club Jakarta Selatan in 2007 as part of a charity auction.
