Fired stoneware
22 (H) x 32 (D) cm
Condition: Very Good

Bought at an exhibition in NAFA, a joint exhibition of a group of Singaporean potters linked with Eng Teng and Iskandar, in the late 1990s or 2000s.

An Ode to Beauty - this glazed jar with deep blues and browns pays beautiful homage to its Grecian roots and that was why we were attracted to it.

Letting go is part of our pared-down curation as moving into a smaller home.

Peter Low (Malaysian, b. 1943) studied oil and Chinese ink painting at the Nanyang Academy of Fine Art (NAFA) in Singapore, graduating with a Diploma in Western
Painting in 1969. He then completed a Diploma in Ceramics Art and Printmaking from the West Surrey College of Arts & Design England, United Kingdom.

He taught at various universities in Taiwan for a decade before joining NAFA in the early 1990s. As an artist-potter, Peter is proficient in producing all kinds of ceramic wares ranging from practical wares to abstract art objects, from murals to delicate pots. He emphasises the integration of traditional skills with creative vision.

Ceramics, apart from being a mode of expression for Peter Low, represents his philosophy for a blissful life. Written on his work is the wealth of experience tested out of high-fired glaze or manipulated temperature as he knows how. Peter’s works are poetry without words. The physicality of the object is just a frame of reference to his vision.
