Unknown Artist, Untitled (Balinese Girl with a Red Hibiscus), 1970s
Oil on canvas
46 x 39 cm (visible), 62 x 55.5 x 3 cm (framed)
Condition: Good, with two dents and a slight tear on the upper right corner of the work
-
Acquired from an artist village in Ubud almost 2 decades ago, this portrait of a Balinese girl with a hibiscus on her headdress reminds my wife and me of a dancer we watched who performed on the first evening of our trip to Ubud. We enjoyed the passion and discipline that the Balinese had for their various art forms, and the colours of the flower and her dress reflect how rich their land is with culture and nature.
