Hong Yingqi (Taiwanese, b. 1960) was born in Pingtung and graduated from the Department of Fine Arts at China Culture University in 1982. With a career spanning decades, she has dedicated herself to ceramics, refining her craft through experimentation and an intuitive understanding of clay. Her works have been exhibited internationally, including at the New Zealand International Ceramics Exhibition, and have been featured in prestigious competitions such as the Taiwan Golden Pot Award.
Hong's artistic process is deeply connected to the transformative nature of clay. She explores its shifting states—from soft and pliable to brittle and resilient—emphasising the material’s relationship with water and fire. By cutting and assembling ceramic panels, she constructs dynamic forms that balance structure and spontaneity, creating works that feel both grounded and expressive.
Her ceramics capture a sense of movement and harmony, requiring patience, precision, and an intimate dialogue with the elements. Through his meticulous craftsmanship, Hong Yingqi continues to push the boundaries of ceramic art, shaping spaces that embody both fluidity and permanence.
