Tan Chin Chin (Singaporean, b. 1966) trained in Applied Arts at the Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts and Fine Art Painting at Byam Shaw School of Art in London. She completed her Master of Fine Arts (Painting) at Parsons School of Design in New York in 1998. Tan has received multiple prestigious art awards in Singapore, including the Dr Tan Tsze Chor Art Award and the Grand Prize at the UOB Painting of the Year.
Dr Tan explores the convergence of culture and religion through the use of textiles and paper in collage across various surfaces, delving into the complexities of history within contemporary culture. Her collages, composed of intricate layers of patterns, textures, and paper cutting, create distinct experiences of colour and depth. From a distance, her works may appear uniform, yet on closer examination, they reveal a rich interplay of materials, each embodying different aspects of cultural histories. This concept mirrors life in the modern city, where diverse cultures, experiences, and religious backgrounds intersect and harmonise.
Tan has participated in more than 40 group exhibitions internationally, and her works are held in the collections of Singtel, Singapore Airlines, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and the Singapore Art Museum.
