Somewhere along our winding travels through Europe in 2010, we found ourselves in a quiet, sun-drenched town in Spain—a place not marked by fame, but by the kind of charm you only discover when you take the slower road. It was there, tucked away on a cobblestone side street, that we wandered into a small local art gallery—drawn in by curiosity more than purpose.
Inside, among the paintings and sculptures, stood a striking glass vase that caught both our eyes at once. It shimmered with colour and light in a way that made it feel alive—fluid, emotional, full of quiet expression. We stood in front of it for a long while, not knowing anything about it, yet already feeling a connection.
A kind gallery owner noticed our fascination and shared a story that’s stayed with us ever since. The vase had been created by a known—yet to us, still unknown—glass artist. His name slipped our minds as we continued on our journey, lost to the whirlwind of travel, but the story stuck. Years earlier, the artist had a chance encounter with Paloma Picasso, daughter of Pablo Picasso. Moved by his admiration for her father’s work, he shared his vision for a piece that would honor the legacy of artistic courage and imagination. To his surprise and delight, Paloma gave him her blessing to bring it to life.
That vase, standing quietly in the gallery, was the result of that moment—a fusion of two artistic souls across generations and mediums. And somehow, on a spontaneous stop in a sleepy Spanish town, it found us.
We brought it home, where it’s lived ever since, not just as a beautiful object, but as a story—a reminder of the magic that can happen when you’re open to unexpected beauty and serendipity. Now, as we begin a new chapter, it’s time for someone else to discover this piece and let its story continue in a new home, where it can inspire wonder all over again.
