Zeng Shanqing (Chinese, b. 1946) is a renowned Chinese painter known for his expressive brushwork and contemporary reinterpretations of traditional Chinese ink painting. Born in Beijing, he studied at the Central Academy of Fine Arts, where he was influenced by both classical Chinese art and modern Western techniques. Zeng is especially recognised for his powerful portrayals of horses, often rendered in dynamic, calligraphic strokes that convey movement and emotion. His works have been widely exhibited in China and internationally, contributing to the revival and innovation of Chinese ink painting in the 20th century.
This is one of two pieces of paintings of horses that was acquired from an art gallery in Singapore more than 20 years ago. Each painting features a unique & expressive portrayal of horses and the rider. The artwork captures beautifully the elegance & strength of the horses as well as the spirit of the rider.
I will be downsizing to a smaller residence in the near future and will not have the space to display the paintings. Rather than keep the paintings in storage, I would prefer they find a new home where they can be enjoyed and appreciated. Each painting is sold separately and would make a beautiful collection to any home.
Acquired from Plum Blossoms International almost 3 decades ago.
