    Zhang Wen Yuan (Chinese, b. 1942) is a painter known for Asian modern and contemporary art, with his speciality in oil paintings. In 1960, he joined the People’s Liberation Army, where he later transferred to the art section of the Political Department of the Chengdu Military Region. From there, he became involved with the region’s literary and arts workshop. 

    Zhang’s work often features themes tied closely to China’s cultural and political history and landscapes of his time. One of his major collaborative projects includes “The Great Wall”, a large-scale propylene landscape painting created in 1997. Zhang is a member of the Chinese Artists Association and he has exhibited in both military and national fine arts exhibitions.
