Natee Utarit

Natee Utarit (Thai, b.1970) is one of Thailand's leading contemporary painters, renowned for his technically accomplished figurative works that draw upon the visual traditions of European art history while examining questions of identity, history, and postcolonialism. A graduate of Silpakorn University in Bangkok, he employs genres such as still life, portraiture, landscape, and religious painting to create layered visual metaphors that challenge conventional readings of culture, authenticity, and representation.

Blending classical realism with contemporary conceptual concerns, Utarit often references Renaissance painting, photography, and art historical imagery to explore the intersections of Eastern and Western artistic traditions. His meticulously composed paintings invite reflection on perception, belief, and the role of painting in the contemporary world. Widely exhibited across Asia and Europe, his works are held in major public and private collections, including the Singapore Art Museum and the Queensland Art Gallery.
