Sim Kern Teck (Singaporean, 1931–2015) was a Singaporean artist known for his explorations of abstraction and expressive forms. His works include abstract compositions and stylised depictions of animals, particularly cats, reflecting an interest in simplifying familiar subjects into expressive shapes and lines. His works have appeared in international auction records, including sales of both paintings and sculptures.
Sim’s practice demonstrates an interest in the relationship between form, line, and composition, with his abstract works often reducing subjects into simplified geometric and organic forms. In 1965, he participated in the Contemporary Art Exhibition at Cathay, where he was judged the best among the Singapore entries for the Cathay Pacific Art Exhibition. He received the accompanying air travel prize from Cathay flight hostess Josephine Lee of Malaysia.
