Abas Alibasyah (Indonesian, 1928–2016) was an influential Indonesian painter, educator, and cultural figure whose practice developed from figurative painting towards increasingly abstract and expressive forms. Born in Purwakarta, West Java, he initially studied at Keimin Bunka Shidoso during the Japanese Occupation before continuing his formal education at the Akademi Seni Rupa Indonesia (ASRI) in Yogyakarta, graduating in 1956.

Alongside his artistic practice, Alibasyah played an important role in Indonesian art education, teaching at ASRI and later serving as its director. His works explore figures, landscapes, cultural subjects, and abstraction, with a strong emphasis on colour, form, and expressive composition. He received numerous distinctions throughout his career, including the Cultural Award Scheme from the Australian government in 1970, the Best Painting award at the 1974 Indonesian Painting Biennale, and the Anugerah Seni from the Government of Indonesia in 1985.
