Andre Brasilier (French, b.1929) is a French painter whose lyrical, dreamlike works explore an intimate relationship between nature, beauty, and human experience. Born into an artistic family in Saumur, he studied at the École des Beaux-Arts in Paris and was awarded the Prix Florence Blumenthal in 1952 and the Premier Grand Prix de Rome in 1953, leading to a residency at the Villa Medici in Rome from 1954 to 1957.
Brasilier is particularly known for his elegant depictions of horses, landscapes, music, and the female figure. Combining elements of abstraction and Expressionism, he uses simplified forms, delicate lines, and harmonious colour to create serene and poetic compositions. His work has been exhibited internationally, including major retrospectives at the State Hermitage Museum in St Petersburg in 2005 and Museum Haus Ludwig in Germany in 2007.
