Arthur Yap (Singaporean, 1943 - 2006) was a poet, writer and painter. He received the Cultural Medallion in 1983 for his work in poetry and literature, but his passion for painting ran parallel to his literary career. He participated in solo exhibitions and group shows within Singapore and around the region, and his paintings were chosen to represent Singapore at the Adelaide Festival of Arts in 1972.
Yap taught himself how to paint through art magazines, exhibitions and trips to Europe in the 1970s. These trips led Yap's work to be inclined towards abstraction, after his exposure to the art movement overseas. He concerned himself primarily with lines, forms and colours.
