Aryo Toh Djojo (American, b. 1984) is a visual artist who lives and works in Los Angeles. He earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts from the Art Center College of Design in Pasadena in 2016. Djojo mixes science fiction and satire in his paintings, often setting surreal scenes against familiar Los Angeles landmarks. His mastery of airbrush acrylic creates a soft, stencilless surface that hovers between a blurred photograph and a fleeting dream, inviting viewers into that moment when conscious vision meets the subconscious.

I first discovered Aryo’s work in 2021 at a group show at WOAW Gallery in Hong Kong. His unique airbrushing technique immediately caught my eye, blending clarity with a sense of mystery. The subtle UFOs he includes add a playful touch, making you feel like he’s left a little piece of himself in each work.

"25% Chips 75% Air" truly speaks to me. I’ve always loved sunsets—the way the sky transforms is magical, and no two are ever alike. This artwork captures that fleeting beauty perfectly, letting me hold onto those moments. Every time I look at it, I feel a rush of emotions, as if time has stopped and I’m invited to dive into the scene.

This piece serves as a reminder to stay present, to appreciate life’s transience. It’s more than just a visual experience; it offers a space for reflection and appreciation of the now.

As a collector, it’s been incredibly rewarding to witness Aryo's growth. He is now represented by Perrotin, a prestigious contemporary art gallery with locations on three continents. This summer, he will also have a solo show at Perrotin in Hong Kong, showcasing his continued evolution as an artist.

I acquired this piece from Sow & Tailor, LA.
