Baldur Helgason (Icelandic, b.1984) is a contemporary visual artist whose practice centres on figurative painting, drawing, and sculpture. Living and working in Reykjavík, his works often feature distorted or fragmented human figures, exploring themes of identity, emotion, humour, and the complexities of contemporary life. His paintings combine expressive figuration with surreal and psychologically charged imagery, often characterised by unusual facial features and exaggerated forms.
Helgason works across oil painting, works on paper, digital illustration, and sculpture, drawing on influences ranging from art history and mythology to popular culture. His distinctive figurative language can be seen in recurring motifs such as multiple mouths, masked or obscured faces, and solitary figures. He has exhibited internationally, including solo exhibitions in Reykjavík, London, New York, and Hong Kong.
