Bembol De La Cruz (Filipino, b. 1976) was born in Manila, Philippines. He graduated with a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in Painting from the University of the Philippines College of Fine Arts, one of the country’s leading art institutions. Emerging in the 1990s, he quickly became known for his disciplined technical approach and thoughtful engagement with both historical and contemporary themes. He has since established himself as a significant figure within the Philippine contemporary art scene through consistent exhibition practice.
De La Cruz is best known for his finely rendered figurative paintings that draw from literature, cinema, classical Western painting, and Filipino visual culture. His works often explore memory, nostalgia, colonial history, and personal identity, using carefully staged, cinematic compositions that feel both intimate and theatrical. He has held numerous solo exhibitions in major Philippine galleries and has participated in important local and international group exhibitions. Today, he is widely regarded for combining academic painting skill with sharp cultural commentary.
