Benjamin Hochart (French, b. 1982) is a contemporary artist known for his process-driven and materially focused practice. Working primarily through abstraction, his work explores gesture, surface, repetition, and the physical act of making. His approach often centres on layering, erasure, and mark-making, allowing time, movement, and bodily action to shape the final composition. Rather than aiming for fixed imagery, his works develop through sustained experimentation and controlled chance.

Hochart’s practice is informed by an interest in rhythm, structure, and the tension between control and spontaneity. His works often carry a meditative quality while remaining grounded in physical labour and material resistance. He has exhibited in various contemporary art spaces and is recognised for a restrained yet intense visual language that emphasises texture, depth and the traces of artistic process.

    Acquired directly from the artist.
