Benjamin Hochart (French, b. 1982) lives and works between Aubervilliers and Paris, and graduated from the École nationale supérieure des beaux-arts in Lyon in 2006. His practice spans a wide range of media, including drawing, performance, video, fibre-based work and publishing, reflecting a broad and exploratory approach to image-making.
His work is shaped by influences such as outsider art, folk art, genre cinema and comics, often engaging with questions of artistic hierarchies while exploring both formal and political concerns. Beyond his studio practice, Hochart is currently pursuing a PhD within the RADIAN programme, where his research—‘To overthrow, assemble: popular artistic activity’—extends his interest in collective and alternative modes of creative production.
