Bianca Nemelc (American, b.1991) is a New York-based figurative painter whose practice explores the relationship between the female body and the natural world. Working primarily in acrylic, she creates stylised figures in rich brown tones set within lush, tropical landscapes, drawing from her personal experiences, identity and familial heritage. Her self-taught practice developed from drawing the body and gradually evolved into imagined environments where figures and nature coexist.
Nemelc’s paintings consider themes of identity, belonging, ancestry and the connection between the body and landscape. Her compositions often feature anonymous, headless female figures, allowing the body to become a broader representation of identity rather than a specific individual. Inspired by both her upbringing in New York and her Caribbean and wider familial heritage, her work creates imagined spaces of comfort, freedom and harmony between women and nature.
