Boo Sze Yang (Singaporean, b. 1965) graduated from LASALLE College of the Arts and later completed postgraduate studies at Goldsmiths, University of London. Emerging in the late 1990s, he became recognised for his psychologically intense figurative paintings and has since established himself as one of the key painters in Singapore’s contemporary art landscape. He has exhibited extensively in Singapore and internationally, with works shown at institutions such as the Singapore Art Museum.
Boo is best known for his dark, meticulously rendered figurative works that explore themes of fear, memory, isolation, and the subconscious. Drawing from personal experiences and psychological states, his imagery is often unsettling, staged within claustrophobic or dreamlike environments. His practice consistently centres on painting as a medium of emotional and psychological inquiry, and he is widely regarded for his technical discipline and sustained engagement with the human figure.
Acquired from Utterly Art in 2006.
