Caroline Hwang (American, b. 1979) grew up in Southern California, where she earned her BFA with honors at the Art Center College of Design. She currently resides in Brooklyn, New York, and her works have been featured in numerous galleries and museums. She has taught at the Maryland Institute College of Art and has given several guest lectures. Additionally, she is a trained illustrator, with her work appearing in various design publications.

I was visiting New York when a friend, an art curator, invited me to visit Caroline Hwang's studio in Brooklyn. I immediately fell in love with Caroline's fabric works, which are whimsical, playful, and yet reflective at the same time. The intricate details in her embroidery are delightful. Her art often explores relationships, with the female figure always taking center stage, and frequently incorporates elements of nature into the settings.

I asked if she depicts herself in her art, and she winked, saying, "Sometimes, but not always..."
