A graduate of Silpakorn University, Thailand, Chamnan Chongpaiboon (Thai, b.1982) has exhibited his works internationally, including in Australia, New York, Miami, London, Singapore, Malaysia, Hong Kong, Jakarta. He is known for his meticulous use of dots to create contemporary portraits, drawing inspiration from the ritualistic Buddhist Mandala and the meditative state of mind. His work explores the beauty of women, often infused with a touch of retro fashion, using a vibrant color palette and minimalist compositions.
For Chongpaiboon, each dot symbolises a letter, and the continuous circles they form represent words coming together. When multiple rings of dots converge, they create a visual narrative, mirroring the storytelling process. The circular motif holds deeper significance in his art, reflecting his Buddhist belief in the "Wheel of Dhamma", a symbol of wholeness, peace, and eternity. Chongpaiboon is a master of the pointillism technique, and meticulously paints freehand, without the aid of digital tools.
