Chieu Shuey Fook (Singaporean, 1934–2024) studied Western painting at the Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts under the guidance of Nanyang-style pioneer Cheong Soo Pieng (Chinese, 1917–1983). After graduating, he pursued a career in advertising for over 20 years, a period that granted him the creative freedom to explore his artistic endeavours. His works were frequently showcased by both the firm and its clients.

From 1981 to 1983, Chieu served as president of the Modern Art Society, playing a key role in promoting contemporary art in Singapore. He was also instrumental in founding the Black Earth Art Museum in 2008, further contributing to the local arts landscape.

Chieu worked across various mediums throughout his career, with some of his most renowned pieces—executed in batik—becoming part of Singaporean telecommunications conglomerate Singtel’s corporate collection. He also developed a keen interest in metal relief work and, during his time in advertising, created aluminium relief murals for approximately 20 Boeing 707s and 747s under Singapore Airlines.
