Christine Mak (Singaporean, b. 1957) was trained in Western painting at the Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts (1976–1978) and in Chinese brush painting under Chao Shao-An, a master of the Lingnan style (1979–1982). Mak seamlessly blends traditional Chinese compositions with Western techniques. Her inspirations, drawn from artists like Joan Miró and Jackson Pollock, are evident in her bold yet thoughtful approach.

In this mixed media work, Mak depicts the cool of early morning that is almost palpable in the misty shades of grey bursting through the black night, contrasting with the whiteness of the flowers blooming in the vase. This painting is a reminder of special moments one can easily miss.
