Coplu (Turkish, b. 1958) is a contemporary artist celebrated for his colourful, whimsical style that blends humour with themes of love, peace, and human connection. Born in Uşak, Turkey, he began as a cartoonist during his university years, using satire to comment on political and social issues of the time. His first solo exhibition was held in Istanbul in 1984, and by 1989 he gained international recognition, exhibiting widely across Europe, North America, and Asia. Now based between Vancouver, Canada and Antalya, Turkey, Coplu has developed a distinctive visual language of playful, sentimental figures that convey optimism and universal emotions, earning him a broad international following.

This is one of the first pieces of art that my husband and I bought when we got our first home. Its vibrancy and the artist’s message of love and family appealed to us. It took pride of place at our entry way then, mounted on a matching silk frame to enhance its size and warm feeling. Now years on, our taste in art has shifted to abstract works and our home space is limited. Hence we are editing our collection and hope to find a good home for this work, where it will be seen and appreciated for more years to come.

“Wishful Beginnings” is a vibrant original painting by Turkish artist Coplu, celebrated for his colourful, uplifting scenes of love, hope and optimism. Acquired in 2009 from Ode To Art in Singapore during his “Celebration of Life” solo exhibition, it became a personal symbol of new beginnings for me, as I had just started my journey with my then‑boyfriend, now husband. Over the years, the painting has travelled with us through several homes, always bringing warmth and joy to our spaces. After many years of enjoying it, we feel it’s time for this cherished piece to brighten someone else’s home as we refresh our living space. We hope it will become just as meaningful a companion in its next home as it has been in ours.
