Dato Kamil Shafie (Malaysian, b. 1960) is a distinguished fine artist from Kuala Kangsar, Perak, whose journey exemplifies resilience and creativity. His career, rooted in abstract expressionism, began in the 1980s during his studies in the US under the mentorship of esteemed artists like Professor Emeritus Carl Grupp and Professor Robert J. Aldern at Augustana University. Known for his vibrant colors and dynamic free-flowing strokes, Kamil’s work is a reflection of his deep connection to spirituality and his bold approach to challenging artistic conventions.

Beyond his artistic achievements, Kamil Shafie has also made significant contributions in politics, holding various state government portfolios during the 1990s. As the Founder of the ASEAN International Art Stream (AIAS) and a key figure in Malaysian art societies, his influence extends across creative and cultural spheres. His heavy abstract works, defined by their refined yet bold strokes, continue to push boundaries and inspire new possibilities in fine art.
