Edwin Ho (Malaysian, b. unknown) is an artist with a studio in Malacca, at 15 Jalan Tun Cheng Lock. He published an artist statement on April 6, 1998 as follows:
“It has always been my aim as an artist to paint expressive and evocative pictures, which compel viewers.
Thus, abstraction is of paramount importance in every piece of my works. This means that I take great care of form, space, colour, rhythm, movement, line, texture, etc, in every painting I work on. I feel that without abstraction it is impossible to achieve aesthetic beauty, which touches the soul and which is uplifting. I believe strongly that the quality of painting depends very much on abstraction, besides thought and sensibility...
Hence, this adherence to the power of imagination has led to my painting in semi-abstract and abstract expressionistic styles (Abstraction Lyrique). Nevertheless, I believe in the importance of aesthetic canons and concepts. At the same time, I do not hesitate to transcend them for the sake of spontaneity and creativity.”
