Fabienne Verdier (French, b.1962) is a French painter known for developing a distinctive abstract visual language influenced by both Western and Chinese artistic traditions. After graduating from the École des Beaux-Arts in Toulouse, she spent nearly a decade studying painting, aesthetics and philosophy at the Sichuan Fine Arts Institute in Chongqing, China, where she trained with traditional Chinese masters. Her work explores movement, natural forces, energy and the relationship between gesture and form.

Verdier’s paintings are characterised by powerful, gestural brushstrokes and layered, vibrant surfaces, created using large custom-made brushes and tools. Her practice has also engaged with Western art traditions, including Abstract Expressionism and the Flemish Primitives, while continuing to draw on the spontaneity and philosophy of Chinese painting. Her works are held in major collections including the Centre Pompidou and Musée Cernuschi in Paris, and she has exhibited internationally.
