Federico Uribe (Colombian, b 1962) is an artist from Bogota, Columbia. He made his start by studying art at the University of Los Andes before moving to New York to undertake a MFA degree and continue his studies under conceptual artist Luis Camnitzer. He has worked in several cities including Cuba, Mexico, Russia and England, and currently lives in and works out of Miami. His work has been featured in museums throughout North and South America.
Uribe is known for creating sculptures and installations from everyday materials such as coloured shoelaces, bullet casings, electrical wires, and books. His work often explores themes related to violence, consumerism, and the environment, while maintaining a strong visual connection to nature and animal forms. His art has been exhibited in museums and galleries across the United States, Latin America, and Europe, including solo exhibitions at the Madison Museum of Contemporary Art, the Hudson River Museum, and the Bass Museum of Art.
