Fong Kim Seng (Malaysian, b. 1949) is a self-taught painter from Kedah, Malaysia, known for his vibrant depictions of nature and everyday life. His works often feature symbolic elements and keen observation of the natural world, capturing moments in time with vivid colour and expressive form. Over the years, Fong has exhibited widely, including a retrospective at NN Gallery in Kuala Lumpur in 2010, and has been recognised with awards such as third prize at the Kedah Fest Open Show and second prize at the Kontena Nasional Sdn Bhd Art Competition.
This captivating abstract painting, elegantly framed in gold, draws the eye with its rich, textured, mixed-media surface. Dominant earthy tones of ochre, deep browns, and verdant greens are subtly enlivened by touches of vibrant red.
We were instantly drawn to its intricate composition, where vertical and horizontal sections thoughtfully create a profound sense of depth and layered visual elements.
Acquired from Eagle Eye Gallery in 2003.
