G. Raman (Indian, b.1942) is an alumnus of the Government College of Arts & Crafts in Chennai. He has spent his entire life in his childhood home, which has also served as his studio for over four decades. Raman's art is celebrated for its intricate lines and ornate patterns, often depicting figures and events from Hindu mythology, as well as portraits of contemporary Indian village life. His works are part of prestigious collections, including the Birla Academy of Arts in Kolkata, the National Gallery of Modern Art in New Delhi, and the Hyderabad Museum. Throughout his career, he has received twenty-nine awards, three of them international. Raman's distinctive technique involves using black acrylic as an undercoat, upon which he creates dense compositions in white paint, occasionally enhanced with bright, fluorescent colours. This unique approach sets his work apart in the South Indian art scene.
