Greg Mallyon (Australian, b. 1954) is a painter and printmaker known for his aerial-view interpretations of landscapes. Based in rural Victoria, he draws inspiration from deserts, river systems, coastlines and satellite imagery, transforming these forms into abstracted compositions layered with texture and geological depth. His technique blends painting and printmaking, often using raw pigments, marble dust and pumice on wood, aluminium or canvas, creating surfaces that feel eroded, weathered or shaped by time.
Trained at the Queensland College of Art and later completing postgraduate studies including a Master of Art at UNSW, Mallyon has exhibited widely across Australia and internationally, with more than 38 solo exhibitions and many group shows in Singapore, Europe and the United States. His work explores land not only as a physical form but as a record of memory, culture and history, offering viewers a contemplative, map-like vision of the world seen from above.
Bought this piece, an abstract depiction of the Flinders Rock Pool near Melbourne, as a reminder of the places we’ve travelled together as a family.
