Gregorius Sidharta Soegijo (Indonesian, 1932-2006) is a sculptor renowned for his innovative approach that harmonises traditional craftsmanship with contemporary artistic expression. As one of the first graduates of the renowned Indonesian Academy of Fine Arts (ASRI) in 1950, he explored various mediums which resulted in his unique and distinct sculpture inspired by religious and cultural themes.

This work marks an important milestone in Maestro Gregorius Sidharta's career. Created as an academic woodcut on paper during his studies at ASRI in 1953, this work demonstrates bold and expressive carving techniques and religious narratives that later became the core of his masterpieces in sculpture, painting and graphics.

This work was discovered in Yogyakarta, stored in an old folder in good condition along with archival materials, including an invitation from the Kuala Lumpur Language and Literature Council (1967) and a commemorative document marking the first anniversary of Gregorius Sidharta's passing in 2007.
