Huang Zan-Lun (Taiwanese, b. 1979) holds a Master's degree in Fine Arts from Taipei National University of the Arts and currently lives and works in Yilan and Taipei. In recent years, his solo exhibitions have been widely shared within museums and prestigious venues in Taipei and internationally. He has been invited to participate in international exhibitions such as the five-year international touring exhibition at the Vitra Design Museum in Germany and the Asolo Art Film Festival in Italy.
Huang's art focuses on creating new hybrid life forms that coexist between biology and machinery, exploring themes of symbiosis and cross-species interaction. His works critically examine how humanity negotiates its desires and values within the constraints of technological systems and regulations, questioning how humans can maintain agency and existential meaning in such contexts.
Goldfish represent a perfect example of bioengineering. Humans can selectively breed goldfish to achieve desired colors or even alter the appearance of their scales by removing them. Much like a model kit, humans often exercise their unique power and capabilities to reshape living organisms. Through his oil paintings, Huang merges the elements of goldfish and model kits, reflecting on humanity's tendency to alter ecosystems and species for their purposes.
