I Wayan Piki Suyersa (Indonesian, b. 1996) is an artist deeply influenced by his family's artistic heritage, which includes musicians, carvers, religious singers, and traditional architects. Suyersa’s practice combines traditional Balinese techniques with contemporary visual language, creating works that evoke both personal narratives and collective cultural memory. His compositions often blur the boundary between figuration and abstraction, reflecting themes of movement, transformation, and the unseen forces that shape human experience. Through his evolving body of work, Suyersa continues to engage in a dialogue between past and present, bridging Indonesia’s artistic traditions with modern expression. He lives and works in Jogjakarta and has exhibited at the Jogja National Museum and Bandung Contemporary Art Award (BaCAA). He was awarded Japfa artist of the year in 2021.
Acquired at the Hatch Art Project in 2021.
