Ian Woo (Singaporean, b. 1967) is an abstract artist influenced by forms of modernism, perceptual abstraction and the sound structures of music improvisation. Drawing critical attention for his distinctive style of drip and leak paintings, his work explores various framing devices combined with spontaneous doodling and hard-edged mark making

These pieces are two preliminary paintings produced for the final version of Enigmatic Appearances permanently housed at Harbourfront MRT station. A series of line-drawings depicting various sea creatures, ships and clouds, all rendered in Woo's fluid and minimalist style. Woo was inspired by the location of Harbourfront, as the southernmost stop of the North East line and its location near the port. The figures are dispersed throughout the station, allowing commuters to slowly perceive the artwork over time.
