Ithipol Thangchalok (Thai, b. 1946) is an abstract artist and printmaker. He studied graphic arts at Silpakorn University in Bangkok and later earned an M.F.A. in painting from the University of Washington, USA. His early mastery of printmaking techniques—such as etching, lithography, and woodcut—shaped his lifelong exploration of texture, form, and visual rhythm within abstraction.
Throughout his career, Ithipol has pursued a meditative visual language that balances structure and spontaneity, reflecting both modernist influences and Thai philosophical thought. As a longtime professor at Silpakorn University and a recipient of Thailand’s National Artist Award in Fine Arts (2008), he has played a central role in shaping contemporary Thai art, inspiring new generations to bridge traditional aesthetics with global modernism.
