Iwan Effendi (Indonesian, b. 1979) is a contemporary Indonesian artist known for his multidisciplinary practice spanning drawing, sculpture and installation. He studied visual art at the Indonesia Institute of the Arts in Yogyakarta and continues to live and work there.
Effendi’s works often centre on hand-crafted figures and his signature “daydreaming” faces, reflecting themes of memory, emotion and the human condition. His practice is closely linked to puppetry, particularly through his role as co-founder of the Papermoon Puppet Theatre, where storytelling and visual art intersect. Through a restrained yet expressive approach, he creates works that feel both simple and introspective, inviting personal interpretation.
Acquired from Mizuma Gallery in 2021.
