Jason Martin (British, b. 1970) is a contemporary painter known for his highly textured, abstract works that explore the material qualities of paint. He studied at Goldsmiths, University of London, graduating in 1993, and emerged as part of the Young British Artists generation in the 1990s. He currently lives and works between London and Portugal.
Martin’s practice centres on the physicality of paint, often applying thick layers of oil or acrylic onto surfaces such as aluminium or Plexiglas, which he then manipulates into sculptural, rhythmic forms. His works are frequently monochromatic or subtly tonal, focusing on colour, texture and movement rather than representation. By pushing paint beyond its traditional role as a medium, he creates compositions that sit between painting and sculpture, offering a direct, sensory experience.
This work is framed with TruVue Optium museum acrylic glazing.
Acquired from Mixografia Gallery in Los Angeles in 2021.
