Jennie Nayton (Australian, b. 1974) is an artist based in Western Australia. She works across photography, sculpture and large-scale public art. Her practice is centered on the themes of perception, memory and lived experience. Nayton’s interest in visual perception began in childhood when she experienced significant vision problems. This early challenge shaped her sensitivity to the ways people see and interpret their surroundings. Much of her work investigates how subjective reality is formed, often using light, pattern and layered imagery to guide the viewer’s attention.
She has produced a range of public artworks in Western Australia. Notable examples include a major mural for the Claremont Station underpass in Perth, created in response to local architectural history and natural forms. She has also completed architectural glass commissions that use photographic imagery to create shifting optical effects within public spaces. In addition, she has produced sculptural works such as stainless-steel installations inspired by native birdlife.
